Top 5 2023 immersive marketing events

Here’s a list of must-attend events for marketers eager to flex their metaverse marketing muscles this year.

1. GatherVerse AI Summit 2023

The Gatherverse community is only concerned with the metaverse and the social ramifications that these new technologies provide to business executives and organisations.

The group’s focus is on wellness, ethics, and safety, which is a welcome contrast from many other tech gatherings, which are more concerned with ROI and financial objectives. There is a heavy emphasis on digital citizenship, inclusivity, and accessibility to the metaverse for everyone, which is similar to the concepts of my Metaverse Manifesto.

Every year, the organisation hosts multiple virtual events on subjects ranging from women in technology to sports in the metaverse. The AI summit presented useful information for marketing professionals, as we all grapple with how breakthroughs in AI may affect our roles, plans, and tactics in the future.

2. World Mobile Congress

The significance of 5G in the immersive media world cannot be emphasised. As more customers adopt 5G, the possibility of creating and sharing mind-blowing immersive experiences via mobile devices grows. This year’s metaverse-themed seminars include:

NFTs: Are they a one-hit wonder?

With over 100,000 attendees this year travelling from all over the world, this must be the largest event on our list. The conference will include the most recent and cutting-edge immersive technological developments from large players with significant budgets.

MWC takes over the entire city, making housing and transportation a big issue. Expect large queues for public transportation and taxis, so consider walking instead. Barcelona is one of the most gorgeous and walkable cities I’ve ever seen.

3. The South by Southwest film festival (SXSW)

SXSW, which began as a music festival, has grown into a major phenomenon, attracting around 75,000 participants. Professionals from the film, music, and interactive sectors are now attending the conference.

SXSW combines technology with brand experience, with a full track dedicated to brands and marketing. The world’s coolest creative teams gather in Austin in the hopes of remaining unique and standing out in a congested landscape.

Many professionals, similar to Cannes Lions, travel to Austin without an official SXSW badge because there are hundreds of free events. Before you arrive, you must plan, prepare, and focus on the important activities you want to attend.

Driving in downtown Austin is not advised, and walking is most likely your best mode of transportation. Avoid the urge to wear your most fashionable outfit, as adhering to comfy shoes and functional clothing alternatives is the way to go.

Although the weather in Austin is usually sunny, it is not guaranteed, so bring all-weather clothing such as a rain poncho.

4. Laval Virtual

Laval Virtual is an industry convention with around 20,000 yearly participants held in a tiny town south of Paris.

Prior years have included tracks dedicated to cross-vertical subjects such as marketing, sales, infrastructure, 5G, narrative, perception, and IoT, with a particular focus on industry and business case uses for immersive such as healthcare, architecture, and construction.

This conference is entirely focused on business-to-business immersive technology, so if you’re more interested in consumer advertising, this may not be the ideal pick.

Laval is rich in history, having been established in the 11th century. During your visit, you may visit chateaus, museums, and sample local cuisine. It provides a lovely backdrop for the deep industry networking that takes place outside of event sessions.

5. National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show

NAB is a huge show that spans the entire digital ecosystem including advertising, app development, artificial intelligence, audio, augmented reality, broadcast, cable, cloud solutions, digital video, film, mixed reality, virtual reality, 5G and more.

This is an industry event that draws professionals from all disciplines wanting to further their careers, gain knowledge, experience cutting-edge training, get hands-on with the latest technology, and connect with industry trailblazers advancing the art, science and business of content.

The show offers a wide selection of immersive technical tracks — focusing on content particularly valuable to broadcasters and media professionals. This year, the show includes a visual storytelling track that will be sure to feature innovative immersive content.

The show also provides a dedicated immersive theater space, allowing exhibitors and speakers to show off the latest immersive broadcasting capabilities. Taking place in Vegas, you might get seduced by finding a hotel on the strip, but I recommend finding a hotel off the strip closer to the convention center as they tend to be less expensive and a nice respite from the hubbub of the gambling capital of the world.
